My name is Jamie, and I'm one of the organizers for Pembroke Pride. I wanted to start this blog to give everyone a peek inside what happens behind the scenes, and to tell stories about local achievements. We started Pembroke Pride in 2014, and since then it has been such an adventure. I can't believe what it has grown into, and what our vision is for the next couple of years. I'm so proud, and so excited to share our growth with you as it happens.
Right now, we are planning year 5 of Pembroke Pride! We can't wait to start announcing details for what's to come. I have been meeting so many new and amazing people, with so many phenomenal ideas. I can't thank the people I have been working with enough for their time, commitment, and patience.
At this moment, we have confirmed that Mayor Mike LeMay will be attending Pembroke Pride 2018. This is huge, once again. He gave an amazing speech at last years walk as we raised the Pride flag at the Pembroke Marina. The city has once again allowed us to hang a Pride flag outside of city hall for the weekend. We are looking to move the flag raising to a different location, and at a different time than the walk this year. The flag raising will be geared towards the media, while the walk will be geared towards the community. We also want the flag we raise to hang for the whole weekend, and at the Marina it is unable to stay up for more then a few minutes.
We will be sticking with the shortened walk route again this year, and we are focusing on providing more entertainment and things to do once walkers have returned from the walk. This has been a struggle for us in the last few years, as we never know what the weather will be like.
I am so excited to start this blog, and to keep everyone updated on the behind the scenes of Pembroke Pride.
Have a great day!
